“I draw from my experience as a tokenized queer, brown individual navigating a set of privileges in my mid-twenties, confused and belittled in the process. The imagery: a self-portrait referencing the time I was jumped for being in the wrong neighborhood at the wrong time, a bruised face, and tiny sparkles radiating as the color spectrum or rainbow flag. I want these visuals to convey a moment of liberation and isolation. A visual representation of how I felt on this day.” -Mario Villanueva
