Carving Through Borders: Baeza

Felipe Baeza
2014
Carving Through Borders

Originally handcarved by Felipe Baeza on a large 7'x3' wooden block, this print is the digital version scaled down to 18"x12" inches. Incredible effort and a significant poetic visual.

About the artist:

Born in Guanajuato, Mexico, Felipe Baeza currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. Through his work primarily in printmaking he incorporates and addresses the issues of colonization of the lands in Mexico, and all colonized through the use of rape, killing, and elimination of culture, in the quest of gold. In return the colonizers civilized these people by saving them from their savage lives by imposing Catholicism onto them as the one and only true religion.
